LELAND — Norma Jeanette Couch, born on March 15, 1938, in Howell, Georgia, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2025, in Leland, North Carolina, at the age of 87. Her life was one marked by service, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to her family, friends, and community.
Throughout her professional life, Norma dedicated herself to supporting others with grace and diligence. She worked as a secretary within the Wilson County Public Schools system and later served as a secretary for the First Baptist Church in Wilson. Her efficient and caring nature left a lasting impression on her colleagues and the communities she served.
Norma had a remarkable talent for creating beauty, both through her gardening and her skillful quilting and sewing projects. Her home was filled with warmth and color, a testament to her creative spirit. An accomplished musician, she played the piano and organ with passion and precision, often sharing her gift as an accompanist at the Wilson First Seventh-Day Adventist Church, where she was a devoted member.
Her heart for service extended beyond her immediate circle, and she was deeply involved in community outreach through the Bags of Love program, which provided essential support for women and children in need. Norma’s dedication to helping others was truly inspirational and touched countless lives.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alexander Wayne Couch, her parents, Paul and Ellen Mikell Googe, and several brothers and sisters. Norma leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, cherished by her three daughters: Andrea Jordan (Dave) of Burgaw, Sue Ellen Baute (Jorge) of Elizabethtown, and Pam Goodrum of Orlando, Florida. She is also survived by six grandchildren and one great-grandson, who will carry forward her spirit and values.
Though she has departed from this world, Norma’s influence and lessons will continue to inspire all who knew her. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date, where family and friends can gather to honor her memory and celebrate the impact she made during her time on Earth.
