WILMINGTON — Joseph Raymond Novak, 88, born in South Amboy, NJ in 1936, Passed Away on March 27th at Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Wilmington, North Carolina surrounded by his family.

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joseph Novak, a beloved husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, brother, and friend. Joseph’s journey began in South Amboy, New Jersey, where he was born to a family that instilled in him the values of faith, resilience, and hard work.

He attended Sacred Heart Grammar School and was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Church, where he received the sacraments of Baptism, Holy Communion, and Confirmation. His early years in New Jersey were filled with stories of adventure and experiences that shaped his character and gave him an appreciation for life’s unpredictable paths.

Joseph’s life led him to North Carolina, where he spent most of his years, always carrying a strong work ethic and determination that defined him. He was a man of many talents, but above all, he was a man of deep love for his family.

He was first married to Peggy, with whom he had four children: Barbara Ann, Bernice (deceased), Jimmy, and Joe. Later, he shared his life with his loving wife Betty Eason Novak, who stood by his side with love and devotion. Through his marriage to Betty, Joseph gained a wonderful extended family and embraced his role as a stepfather to Terri & Ed Johnson, Karen Irving, and George Irving and his Grandchildren Landon Kraft, Hailey Irving, and Cole Irving.

Joseph had a passion for the simple joys in life. He loved fishing and crabbing, often finding peace by the water, casting his line with the patience and wisdom that mirrored his approach to life. His stories, laughter, and unwavering spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his brothers Kenneth and Robert, his beloved daughter Bernice, and many loved ones who welcomed him home. He leaves behind his cherished sister, Carol Kaminski, and his wife, Betty; his children, stepchildren, grandchildren, extended family, and many dear friends.

Joseph’s life was a testament to resilience, hard work, and love for family. While he may no longer be with us, his memory will forever be a source of warmth and inspiration to those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Joe’s family wishes to thank the caregivers at Lower Cape Fear Hospice for their care and kindness in his final days.

A memorial service will be held to honor and celebrate his life. Details will be shared with family and friends.
