WILMINGTON — Our beloved Grace was born in Fall River, Mass. on August 9, 1930, the daughter of the late Charles C, Furtado and Doris Shackleton Furtado. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, V. Glenn Avery of Wilmington, NC. Her first husband, and father of her children, William F. Morrison preceded her in 2012.

She is survived by her one brother, Charles C. Furtado, II; her three children, W. Stephen Morrison (Suzanne), Janet Morrison Yow and Nancy Morrison Holland; her six grandchildren, Kristen L. Yow Morgan (Dustan), Ryan L. Yow (Mindy), W. Aaron Morrison (Alison), Grace Ella Morrison. William Elliott Holland, and Elise Nicole Holland; great-granddaughter, Grace Elizabeth Yow; step-great-grandson, Jaxon Morgan; step-daughters, Laura Avery Silva and Mary Florence Avery; nieces, Deborah S. Jaynes and Mary Furtado; nephews, Gary C. Jaynes and C. Curtis Furtado.

Grace was a member at St. Andrews -on-the-Sound Episcopal Church and was an active member in the ECW. Grace attended Meredith College and Rex Nursing School in Raleigh, NC. During her lifetime, she worked in the health care field and real estate.

Grace was president of the Women’s Council of Realtors, Director of the “Keep America Beautiful” office for New Hanover County, worked as a Resident Services Director for Plantation Village, a live care independent living facility and a part-time employee with the Board of Elections in New Hanover County.

Grace was a member of the Cape Fear Garden Club for 33 years and President in 1995 thru 1996. She also was a member of the NC Sorosis. As a member of the Carolina Yacht Club, she and friends relished the ocean view and breezes.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at St. Andrews-on-the-Sound Episcopal Church, 101 Airlie Road, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; St. Andrews-on-the-Sound Episcopal Church or charity of choice.
