SOUTHPORT — Pamela “Pam” Schmidt, age 70 passed away March 20, 2025 in McLeod Medical Center in Florence, South Carolina.
Pam was born June 21, 1954 in Springboro, Ohio, daughter of the late James and Madeleine Riley. She graduated from Springboro High School in 1972 as valedictorian, six months ahead of her class.
Pam went to work for National Cash Register at age 17 as a secretary and left home at that time. She later became a coder, and was able to solve problems that many experienced coders weren’t able to solve. Pam advanced to run the program of teaching new vendors how to work with NCR.
At age 30, she married Eric Schmidt and they moved to Chicago to open a very successful forklift company. After her husband’s retirement, Pam took over as President and CEO and was able to obtain the largest account with the Sears Roebuck Company. She later sold the company and moved to Sunset Beach, North Carolina.
Her husband developed Alzheimers and she cared for him for eight years prior to his passing.
Pam was warm and friendly with an outstanding personality. She loved going to lunch or dinner, with friends, and especially with her companion Bob. Pam enjoyed shopping and adding to her incredible shoe collection. Driving in the spring with her convertible top down was a necessity for her.
Pam and Bob were an outstanding looking couple and loved to watch Netflix movies until 2:00 am. She suffered recently with three hip replacements and other surgeries. Her interests were reading, watching old movies, and the stock market.
Pam leaves behind three sisters, Donna, Rhonda, Courtney; and a brother, Jason.
She will be missed by many in the community.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
