WILMINGTON — Harold Corbin, 94 years of Wilmington, NC peacefully left this world surrounded by his family on March 26, 2025, at the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Hospice Center. Harold lived a long and full life in Maine, New York, Florida, and North Carolina.
He was best known in Port Washington, NY as the owner of H&R Grocers, an Italian American deli, where he made amazing salads, roast beef, ham, lasagna, meatballs & sausage. His submarine sandwiches, apple cake, and Friday pepper and egg sandwiches live on in memory. Prior to retirement, he switched careers and became a tractor-trailer driver for Distron Corp. delivering supplies to Burger King stores along the east coast.
He was an avid bowler, pool player, and fisherman. He spent many hours on Manhasset Bay and the Long Island Sound as a member of the New York Power Squadron. He had a zest for life – water skiing, downhill skiing, and playing golf. At retirement, he relocated to Vero Beach, Florida where he loved hosting happy hour around the pool. In 2022 he moved to North Carolina to be closer to his daughter and family.
Harold was the loving husband of the late Jean Corbin and amazing dad to Kim Corbin-Lewis (David R. Lewis) and Cheryl Corbin. He was a much-loved Pop Pop to Danica Lewis, Alexandra Lewis Jao (Sean), and Christopher Burke.
Born in Sheridan, Maine he was predeceased by his parents Theodore S. & Meddie Page Corbin and his nine beloved siblings – Hazel, Irene, Clarence, Lena, Rose, Stanley, Rene, Jeannette and Dolores. Dad was the last of a generation. He will be greatly missed.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
