WILMINGTON — Edith Werther, a resident of Carolina Bay at Autumn Hall, passed away on March 19, 2025, at the age of 91.
Born in Enfield, CT, she spent much of her life in Glen Head, NY, and later in Mequon, WI, before settling in North Carolina in the early 1990s. She and her husband, Clifford, built a wonderful life together in Porter’s Neck Plantation. After his passing, Edith continued to enjoy life at Carolina Bay.
She was predeceased by her husband, Cliff (2007), her son, Bill (1995), and her sister, Barbara Seibert (2023). She is survived by her son, Richard (Ann) of Novi, MI, and her daughter, Lynn (Patrick) of New Canaan, CT. She was a beloved grandmother to Bryan, Christian, and Caroline (children of Richard and Ann) and Will (child of Lynn and Patrick). She was also a proud great-grandmother to Norah and Leon (children of Christian and Natalie). One of her greatest joys was capturing a four-generation photo at Wrightsville Beach with her great-granddaughter, Norah.
Edith embraced life in Wilmington, enjoying symphony performances, UNCW basketball, and time with her many dear friends. Above all, she cherished her family, finding great joy in moments shared with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She had a generous heart, a love for the beach, and an enduring appreciation for the beauty of North Carolina.
In keeping with Edith’s wishes, there will be no public memorial service. A private burial will be held at Oleander Memorial Gardens in Wilmington, where she will be laid to rest with Cliff and Bill.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Samaritan’s Purse or the Alzheimer’s Association in her memory.
