SOUTHPORT — Tana Kay Warfield, 76, passed away on March 5, 2025, at Dosher Memorial Hospital in Southport, NC.
Born on June 19, 1948, in Baltimore, MD, Tana was the daughter of Alfred C. Denn II and Dolories Denn.
She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Terrence (Bear) Warfield of Southport, NC; her daughter, Shelley Snow of Walkersville, MD; her son, Justin Warfield, and daughter-in-law, Katie Ellis-Warfield, of Frederick, MD. She was a devoted grandmother to Lindsay Snow and Zach Snow, and a cherished great-grandmother to Cameron and Oliver. She also leaves behind her granddaughter-in-law, Hannah Snow.
Tana is also survived by her brother, Alfred C. Denn III, and sister-in-law, Sandy Denn. She will be dearly missed by her close friends, Peg Novi, Susie Pedersen, Beverly Borke, and cousin Darlene MacKenzie.
A 1966 graduate of Frederick High School, Tana dedicated her career to caring for animals and bringing joy to the arts. She worked at Jefferson Animal Hospital, Way Off Broadway Dinner Theater, and Nurses Choice in Wilmington, NC. A gifted seamstress, she designed and crafted costumes for numerous theatrical productions in Western Maryland.
After moving to Southport in 2017, Tana became an active member of the Port City Basket Makers Guild of Southeastern North Carolina. She and her husband shared a deep passion for rescuing retired racing greyhounds through Greyhound Friends of North Carolina. She is also survived by her beloved greyhound companions, McClain and Pyrrha.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Frederick County Animal Welfare League or Greyhound Friends of North Carolina in Tana’s memory.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date in Frederick, MD.
