Beverly Hedglin Ragan, 88

WILMINGTON — Mrs. Beverly Hedglin Ragan, age 88, of Wilmington, NC passed away Thursday evening, March 6, 2025, at Lower Cape Fear Life Care Center.

She was born December 3, 1936 in Mercer, PA, a daughter of the late Russell and Edna Mae Fox Hedglin.

Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ronald Regis Ragan; six brothers, Donald, William, Gary, Russell, Clair and Miles; three sisters, Dorthy, Donna and Gloria; and son-in-law Swain Smith. She is survived by her sister, Darlene and brother, Rodney.

Beverly married her beloved husband on June 30, 1956, and lived in Harrisville, PA for another thirteen years before moving to Wilmington in 1969. She was a devoted mother to Kim (Larry Owens) Smith, Ronald “Sam” (Tammy) Ragan, Mike Ragan, Russell Ragan, Richelle (John) Hicks, Eric (Tera) Ragan; dear sister, Darlen Krofcheck and Rodney Hedglin; 14 grandchildren; 10+ great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Beverly found joy in gardening, quilting, dancing, bowling and reading. Most would consider her a master crocheter, and she frequently used her magical hands to create spectacular pieces of art. From Christmas stockings to ornaments, dolls, blankets, sweaters and more; each carefully crafted and hand-made with love by Grandma.

Family get-togethers for Sunday dinners, holidays and any other occasion delighted her, especially when it involved showcasing her cooking skills, where her stuffed cabbage and chicken noodle soup were family favorites. Family meant everything to Beverly, and she loved all deeply and unconditionally. Every visit with her offered a source of support and caring warmth, and never ended without giant hugs, kisses, and seeing her stand at the doorway waving goodbye.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday March 13, 2025 in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

The procession will leave at 1:40 pm from Wilmington Funeral & Creation at 1535 S. 41st, Wilmington, NC 28401. Flowers will be graciously accepted at Wilmington Funeral & Cremation.
