WILMINGTON — With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Cecil “Bo” Allen Ellis, who peacefully entered eternal rest on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at 11:45 AM, at the age of 87.
Cecil is lovingly survived by his children, Bo Jankowski, Allen Ellis, Teddi Perkins, Joel “Joey” Perkins, and Jana Reeves; and his former wife, Peggy Alred. He was a proud grandfather to Lyric Ellis, Joseph McDuffie Jr, and Lydia Ellis. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and cherished friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie “Myrtle” Andrews and Cecil Carroll Ellis; his siblings, Joyce Clark, Larry Ellis, Bobby Ellis, Jackie Brown; and his infant son, Mickal Ellis.
A man of great generosity, Cecil dedicated much of his life to giving back to the community. He was an active supporter of numerous research and wildlife organizations and played an integral role in local efforts, including adopting a highway in Brunswick County, where he selflessly volunteered his time to keep the area clean and beautiful.
In retirement, Cecil found immense joy in birdwatching, wildlife photography, and cherishing moments with his family. His love for nature was evident in his kindness toward animals and his eagerness to share the beauty of the outdoors with others.
In his younger years, Cecil was an avid motorcyclist, traveling the country and embracing the freedom of the open road. His professional life was largely spent in roadway construction, a career that provided him the opportunity to explore many parts of the United States before settling in Shallotte.
Cecil’s vibrant spirit, infectious sense of humor, and love for life will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the World Wildlife Fund, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Lower Cape Fear Lifecare or any charity that supports causes close to his heart.
Services will be held privately for the family.
