WILMINGTON — Carolyn Sue Morris, 84, passed away on February 16, 2025, in Dunn, North Carolina.
Born on November 25, 1940, Sue was a dedicated and compassionate public health nurse and supervisor for 30 years. She graduated from Benson High School and went on to earn her degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her career was marked by a deep commitment to the well-being of others, particularly in school health supervision.
Sue was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished time spent with her family and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Kenny Morris; daughters, Mary Hawley (Charles) and Sue Ellen Dowler (Mark); son, Paul Hockaday; stepchildren, Kenny Morris, Jr. (Vicki), Mark Morris (Susan), and Kim Morris; twelve grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, Alton and Naomi Massengill; brother, Cecil Massengill; and first husband, Bobby Hockaday.
A woman of faith, Sue was an active member of St. Andrews United Methodist church in Fayetteville and First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Wilmington. She found joy in arts and crafts, working with flowers, and watching birds. Sue’s kindness and dedication to others will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
