WILMINGTON — An angel regained her wings on Sunday morning. It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Karen I. Jenkins, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend; she was 77 years old.
Born on March 20th, 1947, to Dorothy and Edgar Bowkley, Karen was the most beautiful soul both inside and out, and she shared an unwavering commitment to her husband Evan for 55 wonderful years. A selfless woman her entire life; Karen was the perfect mother, always putting the needs and well being of her children above her own.
In her personal life, Karen taught for over 30 years both as a 7th grade History teacher and later for teenagers with behavioral issues. Her gentle spirit and patient nature allowed her to easily connect with children.
She was the anchor of our family and embodied an unconditional love to all who had the privilege of knowing her. She is survived by her children Michelle (Dan) and Brian (Ana), her grandchildren, Jack, Madeline, Connor, Sarah and Tyler, her Aunt Joan, as well as Matt, Zane, Sami, Eden and Milton (Grace) who all lovingly call her “Nanny.”
A celebration of life service will be held on March 1st at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel, 4108 S. College Rd. In Wilmington, NC at 11 am. We ask that friends and family kindly arrive after 10.
Afterwards, please join us at Trinity Landing, 5450 Trinity Landing Way in Wilmington for lunch. In lieu of flowers, we ask families to donate to their local animal shelter since Karen was a huge animal lover.
You’re finally free Mom, we know Dad was waiting for you at the crossroad. Your love and kindness were the warmth of our family, and you will be forever missed. We love you.
