Gerald “Jerry” Joseph Jacobsen (Wilmington Funeral & Cremation)

WILMINGTON — Gerald “Jerry” Joseph Jacobsen, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on February 3, 2025, in Wilmington, NC, at the age of 82 at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare. Born on March 10, 1942 in Hackensack, NJ, Jerry lived a life full of passion, dedication, and love.

Jerry’s career as a Fixed Operations Director in the automotive industry was marked by his relentless work ethic and ingenuity. He was recognized with numerous awards and trips to mark his achievements, testament to his unwavering commitment to excellence. A true aficionado of anything with an engine, Jerry found joy in operating and fixing cars, boats, and motorcycles. His hands were always busy, tinkering with small engines, and his heart was filled with the rhythm of music played loud.

A proud patriot, Jerry’s love for his country and its first responders was evident in the American flag that steadfastly flew in his yard, only coming down when hurricanes threatened. His respect for those who served, and continue to serve, was an integral part of his character, and he carried this reverence throughout his life.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Harold F. and Alice P. Jacobsen (née McCarthy), a son he loved as his Greg Jacobsen, and his brother Walter Jacobsen. He leaves behind his cherished wife, Terri Jacobsen, and children whom he loved as his own: Dave Luther (Cherie Gilbert), Dana Zuckerman (Geoff) with their children Ella and Zac, Diana Sprague with her children Ryan and Kyle, and Bobby Jacobsen, and his brother, Harold Jacobsen, along with many extended family members and dear friends who will miss his spirited presence.

A Memorial Service to honor Jerry’s life will be held at St. Stanislaus Church in Castle Hayne on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 11:00 am, followed by an inurnment ceremony at the church niche.

In lieu of flowers, Jerry’s family kindly requests memorial contributions to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, whose compassionate care in Jerry’s final days made a profound difference. Your generosity will enable them to continue providing much-needed support to others in similar circumstances.

Jerry’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His legacy of love, laughter, and loyalty will inspire those who were fortunate enough to share in his life’s journey.
