WILMINGTON — James Douglas Rhodes, 89, of Wilmington, NC died on February 7, 2025. He was born on September 1, 1935, in Supply, NC to Eulas Herman Rhodes and Margaret Ivie Hewett Rhodes.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Arlene Rhodes; son James (Jamie) D. Rhodes Jr; sister Faye Gregg and brother Kenneth D. Rhodes.
Doug was a retired Captain from Wilmington Fire Department and was instrumental in getting the EMS division of the Fire Department started. He was also a Veteran of the Air Force. He loved wood working and being outside. He also Loved to make people laugh. If you met him for the first time, he would have you in stitches. He will be greatly missed but know that he is celebrating in heaven. He always said, “Don’t cry for me cause I will be in a happy place.”
He is survived by his daughters: Margaret Eva Goins and husband Jerry of Rocky Point, NC, Donna Rhodes Boland and husband Jeff of Wilmington, and stepdaughter Sabrina Pace of Wilmington; eight grandchildren: Anthony Stone (Ginny), Jeremy Goins (Sarah), Josh Boland, Jake Boland (Allie), Katlyn Pace, Christian Pace, Jackson Pace, and Bella Pace; seven great-grandchildren: Emila, Autumn and Rhett Goins, Nick Stone, Ayla & Jazlynn Rolle and Sophia and Nova Boland and one brother, Herman Rhodes.
The Funeral Service will be held at 1pm on February 13, 2025 at Coble Funeral Chapel with Pastor Michael Rhodes and Pastor Art Sauer officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
