WILMINGTON — William Gibbons Fussell “Buddy”, 79, of Wilmington, passed away Friday, January 24, 2025.
He was born January 25, 1945, in Rose Hill, NC, to the late Jessie Lenford Fussell and Margaret Ward Fussell.
Buddy served in the Army National Guard from 1963-1971. Over the years, he was active in church and the Emmaus Community and was devoted to the Lord. He enjoyed living at the beach and spending time on the boat fishing and shrimping with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Lou Sloan (John) and Nancy Whitlaw (Nat), and step daughter, Cheryl Humphrey.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Suzanne Lassiter Fussell; daughter, Cheri Gray (Scott), granddaughter, Aleisha Gray, step children, Jodie Florian (Paul), Amy Humphrey Carroway, Eddie Humphrey (Amanda); step grandchildren, Bethany Burns (Chris), Hunter Pridgen (Raegan), Ethan Florian (Fran), Taylor and Parker Carroway, Kayla Humphrey, and great-granddaughter, Brinlee Burns and four loving nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2pm, Friday, February 21, 2025, at Pine Valley Methodist Church.
The family will receive visitors one hour prior, beginning at 1pm.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses of the PCU 7th floor at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Dr. Jonathan Hines (primary), Dr. Hector Sanchez (pulmonologist), helping angels, Wendy Fonvielle and Kathy Peyton.
