WILMINGTON — Margaret “Glenda” Guyton Gurganious, 82, of Willard, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025, in Wilmington, North Carolina. Born on January 6, 1943, in Brunswick County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Glenn and Margaret Guyton.

Affectionately known as “Miss Glenda,” Margaret spent her early years in Shallotte before marrying her devoted husband, David Gurganious. Together, they shared 65 wonderful years of marriage and built a life in Pender County.

Margaret and David raised four children: Brenda Spearman, Donna Thompson (husband Rick), Darrin Gurganious, and Rhonda Mitchell (husband Mike). She was a proud grandmother to nine grandchildren—Kellie Spearman, Candi Robbins, Kristee Spearman, Arion Gurganious, Rowan Gurganious, Elias Mitchell, Analise Mitchell, Ava Mitchell, and Abigail Mitchell—and a loving great-grandmother to Ethan Robbins and Gabriella Woodcock, as well as bonus great-grandchildren Kayden and Chloe Woodcock. She cherished her family members—Ines Pickel, Stephen Robbins, Steven Woodcock, and Jeniffer Spearman.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Jerry and JC Guyton; and her son-in-law, Andrew Spearman.

A pillar of her community, Margaret co-founded and operated a successful business, Gurganious Gas and Grocery, with her husband. Her warmth and kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew her. She held a steadfast faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ—a faith that guided her life and inspired those around her. Margaret also had a special love for animals, particularly her cherished dogs.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, from 6 PM to 8 PM at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw, North Carolina.

Margaret’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved her. May she rest in eternal peace.
