WILMINGTON — Cyril “Bud” Thomas Meehan, Jr., born on April 14, 1936, in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025, in Wilmington, North Carolina, at the age of 88.
A devoted family man, Cyril leaves behind a legacy of love and faith. He was the cherished husband of Nancy Carver Meehan, his beloved partner of over 62 years. Their devoted daughter, Rita Meehan, lovingly cared for him throughout his life and is left to treasure his memory.
Cyril’s career began with pride as a meat cutter at A & P, but his true professional passion was realized during his many years with the Hardinge Machine Company until his retirement. Throughout these endeavors, he demonstrated a steadfast work ethic and commitment to excellence that inspired all who knew him.
His patriotism was evident in his service as a veteran of the United States Army, where he served his country with honor. Deeply rooted in his faith, Cyril attended St. Mary Our Mother Roman Catholic Church in Horseheads, New York, before becoming an active member of McClure Presbyterian Church in Castle Hayne. His love for God shone through in every aspect of his life; whether singing joyfully in the choir or bringing smiles through church puppeteering, Cyril was always eager to serve the Lord.
Cyril will also be fondly remembered as a compassionate caregiver to his wife and daughter, and a loving grandfather to Brett Meehan and husband, Nicholas Meehan and Todd Meehan and wife, Colleen. His family continues to celebrate his life: his brother, James P. Meehan of West Elmira, NY, brothers-in-law Steve Carver and wife, Janice and Michael Carver; brother-in-law David Carver; sister-in-law Janice and her husband Fred and sister-in-law, Jessica Carver along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends who were touched by his kindness and generosity.
Preceded in death by his parents, Cyril Thomas Meehan, Sr. and Agnes Lyons Meehan, his son Brian Meehan, a great-grandchild, Kyleigh Meehan and a brother-in-law Doug Carver and two sisters-in laws, Elfrida Carver and Diana Meehan. Cyril’s spirit lives on through those he loved and those who loved him dearly.
A celebration of Cyril Thomas Meehan, Jr.’s life will be held 11:00 AM Friday February 7, 2025 at McClure Presbyterian Church, 5908 Castle Hayne Road, Castle Hayne, NC 28429. Family and friends are invited to gather and share memories of a life lived with purpose and devotion. Services will continue at later date in New York.
