WILMINGTON — Betty Roberts Leeuwenburg, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully in her hometown of Wilmington, North Carolina, on January 25, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on December 19, 1941, in Wilmington, she lived a life full of love and dedication to her family and community.
Betty was a devoted member of Pearsall Presbyterian Church and later Bethany Presbyterian Church, where her faith and kindness touched many. Professionally, she contributed her talents to the Customer Service department at JC Penney, where her warmth and dedication were greatly appreciated by colleagues and customers alike.
Outside of her professional life, Betty found joy in the art of knitting and cross-stitch, creating beautiful pieces that reflected her patience and creativity. Her family treasures these handcrafted memories, which will continue to inspire and comfort them.
Betty is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Vivian and James Roberts, and her dear daughter, Tiernie Leeuwenburg.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Wilton Leeuwenburg, her loving son, Dennis, and her treasured grandchildren: Ashley Hunter, Haley Hunter, Caitlin Hunter, and John Regan. Her legacy continues with her great-granddaughter, Cameron Jane Hunter. She is also survived by her sister, Patsy Farrow, nephews, Chris Jackson, Seth Farrow and Brandon Farrow, and uncle Bob Miller who will all carry forward her memory with love.
Betty’s presence in the lives of those who knew her was a source of strength and compassion. Her family and friends will deeply miss her gentle spirit and loving nature.
A memorial service will be held at 3pm on Friday, February 7, 2025 at Bethany Presbyterian Church 2237 Castle Hayne Road, Wilmington NC 28401.
