OAK ISLAND — With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Sherry Trapp, Of Oak Island, a loving mother, devoted friend, and cherished little sister, who peacefully passed away on January 18, 2025, at the age of 62.

Born on March 13, 1962, in Delaware, PA, Sherry was the youngest of four siblings. She will always be remembered for her unmatched beauty and bravery, unwavering kindness, infectious smile, dedication to her family, and her belief that “…everything will be alright.”

Sherry was a pillar of our community, always ready to lend a helping hand and spread positivity. Her passion for helping others and her love for her community brought joy to everyone around her. For 25 years, she worked at Bell’s Supply, in Brunswick County, where her warmth and dedication left a lasting impact on everyone she met. Her smile was what greeted most everyone who came through the doors.

When she was not working, Sherry could be found at thrift stores, delighting in the treasures she discovered, or out on the dance floor, indulging in her favorite pastime. Her vibrant spirit and zest for life were truly infectious. Some call her a “local celebrity” due to her popularity for being stunning and affectionate.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Ethel Iris Mears, and her brother, Butch MacCarter. Sherry is survived by her loving partner, Tony Bradshaw; her beloved children, Shannon Gordon (Lonnie Sr.) of Oak Island, Candice Murphy (Joey) of Southport, and Misty Spivey (Bubba) of Biscoe; her six cherished grandchildren: Lonnie Wayne Gordon Jr., Lily Murphy, Adriana Murphy, Chloe Spivey, Annabelle Spivey, and Rileigh Spivey. She also leaves behind her siblings, Linda and Bruce MacCarter, both of Sunset Harbor, and her precious little pup, Weslee.

A celebration of Sherry’s life will be held on Friday, January 31st, 2025, at Ocean View United Methodist Church, 8400 E. Oak Island Dr., Oak Island, NC, 28465. The memorial will begin at 2pm.

Though she may have departed this world, her legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire all those who had the privilege to know her… and to know her was to love her.
