WILMINGTON — Norman” Allen” Thompson, born on October 18, 1946, to the late George Norman and Edith Credle Thompson.

Allen passed away peacefully on January 18, 2025, in Wilmington, NC. He was 78yrs old.

He is survived by his daughter Beth, son in law Chris McCall, grandsons Gavin Coughlin, Joseph Coughlin and Cooper McCall, sisters Toni Marshall (Sam) and Donna Spencer (Pat), a brother Dennis Thompson (Debbie), nieces and nephews in addition to many cousins and friends.

Allen had fond stories of growing up in California and Hyde County NC. Allen had a love of the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting, and a passion for riding and building Harley Davidson’s which he passed down to his grandsons. Allen served in the Navy for 10yrs and served aboard the USS John F. Kennedy where he made lasting friendships. He moved to Greenville, North Carolina when he was honorably discharged from the Navy to begin a career as a Biomedical Technician. He dedicated over 35yrs to Pitt Memorial Hospital and was referred to as “NAT” because he was always moving only sitting long enough to have a good meal.

His commitment to community and fellowship extended to his membership in the Masonic Lodge in Greenville, North Carolina. He made lasting friendships in everything he did from riding motorcycles, working at the hospital, hunting & fishing, and hanging out at Chico’s where he was known to have his “top two on the rocks.” He enjoyed his family, friends, and helping those in need while also known to play a practical joke. He will be loved and missed by family and friends. The family would like to acknowledge its sincere appreciation for the great care provided by The Davis Community Wilmington NC. Memorial services to honor Allen Thompson’s life will be held at a later date to be determined. His memory and stories will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
