WILMINGTON — John Henry Creech was born in Wilmington, North Carolina on May 28, 1943 to Louis and Myrtle Creech. John was raised in Carolina Beach and attended New Hanover High School. Growing up, he loved playing sports, fishing with his brother and father on the beach and Britt’s Donuts on the Carolina Beach Boardwalk.
After graduating from high school, John attended Duke University. At Duke, he was a member of the University’s Football team. John was also an initiated member of the Alpha Phi chapter of Kappa Alpha Order at Duke University.
After receiving his undergraduate degree from Duke, John began his career in the paperboard industry in sales. His career spanned decades, culminating in him achieving the title of partner in a paperboard company. Respected and accomplished in his career, John was most proud of his family.
John was a devoted, loyal and beloved son, brother, father, uncle, grandfather, cousin and friend. He was a proud and doting girl dad. John lost his long battle to illness on January 15, 2025.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Myrtle Creech, and his brother, Edward Creech. He is survived by his two daughters, Amy Creech (Jeff) and Carrie McDonald, his grandsons, Trace McDonald (Alexa) and Blake McDonald (Jessie), his great grandson J.D., his niece, Allison Creech (Ko) and his great nephew Reidan.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and extreme gratitude to the caregivers that selflessly took care of John in his final years.
