SOUTHPORT — Alice passed away on January 14, 2025 at SECU Hospice House of Brunswick with family by her side.
She was born in London, England on 15 February 1939; a tumultuous time in British history, to James and Mary Ann O’Connell and was the oldest of 9 children.
She attended school in London, worked for a time at the London Zoo and then her and her father immigrated to Canada, shortly thereafter joined by her mother and siblings. She then immigrated to the U.S. where she later became a U.S. citizen.
Always up for an adventure, she not only lived in 3 countries, but also lived in New Jersey, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Florida and Virginia before retiring in North Carolina. She will be remembered for her kind soul and her witty sense of humor.
Alice was preceded in death by her son, Sumner Sebastian “Kipper” Lawrence and is survived by her husband – and the love of her life – Andrew, her daughter Catherine Markulin of Santa Fe, New Mexico, granddaughters Alison Barry, Ashley and Amanda Lawrence, grandsons Nicholas Markulin and Gavin Lawrence and great-granddaughters Aurora, Veronica, Fiona and Jasmine. Also by her surviving siblings: Peter, Christopher, John, Patricia, Mary and Francine.
Family would like to give heartfelt appreciation to the staff at SECU Hospice of Brunswick for their care and compassion during this difficult time.
“Go raibh suaimhneas síoraí uirthi.”
