LELAND — Charles Keith Brooks, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, passed away on January 12, 2025, in Leland, North Carolina, at the age of 84. Born on August 28, 1940, in Magnolia, North Carolina, Charles led a life marked by service, dedication, and a deep appreciation for family and the simple joys of life.

Charles proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, dedicating four years to the nation’s defense before being honorably discharged in 1965. Following his military service, he embarked on a long and fulfilling career at General Electric Aircraft, where he worked diligently as a machinist and tool and die maker for 30 years until his retirement.

A man of the Baptist faith, Charles found solace in his faith, and joy in pastimes that brought him closer to nature and his community. He and his wife enjoyed traveling during his retirement. He possessed a remarkable talent for woodworking and building. His passion for gardening was evident in his meticulously manicured yard, where he spent countless hours nurturing life and beauty. Additionally, Charles delighted in the thrill of discovery at flea markets and yard sales, always on the hunt for a bargain that would bring a smile to his face.

Charles was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Wilbert Brooks and Pauline Quinn Brooks. He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Edith Crook Brooks; his daughter, Angela Brooks of Augusta, Georgia; and his son, Brian Brooks of Wilmington. Charles also leaves behind three cherished grandchildren, Annie Rankin, Dawn Hopson, and Deborah Hill, along with his great-grandchild, Dawson Dean. His siblings, Gale Knowles, Wilbert Brooks, Linda Gore, Linwood Brooks, and Ann Kendall, along with extended family and friends, will dearly miss his warmth and kind spirit.

A service to honor the life of Charles Keith Brooks will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2024, at Wilmington Funeral Chapel. Life Celebrant Linda Register will lead the ceremony, with military honors provided by the US Air Force Honor Guard from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.

Charles’s legacy of love, service, and passion for the world around him will continue to inspire and comfort those who knew and loved him.
