SOUTHPORT — Richard Williams Sessoms, 84 passed away peacefully on December 31, 2024, at Terra Bella Assisted Living in Southport, NC. Born in Lumberton, NC on October 3, 1940, son of the late Richard Martin Sessoms and Mary Riddle Sessoms.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Herbert Bruce Sessoms and ex-wife, Martha Basinger Sessoms.
In his early days after attending Pembroke University, Richard was a successful sportfishing captain based out of Carolina Beach, NC and all along the East Coast of the U.S. winning multiple tournaments and trophies. Richard held many management positions in construction, including Superintendent of Asbestos removal with Rhem Insulation based in Jacksonville, NC.
Richard enjoyed many activities including bowling, golf, fishing, raising house plants including many varieties of Christmas cacti. Richard was an avid water skier and enjoyed spending time with friends and family at the Lazy A Ranch at Badin Lake in Stanly County, NC. Richard was a very present and loving “Papa” to his grandson.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Summer Lange and his grandson, Connor Lange. Richard will be missed by his extended family and friends including his neighbors on Burnett Road.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 11, 2025, from 1 pm until 3 pm at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel, 4108 S. College Rd., Wilmington, NC 28412.
