Nila Lee (Giannecchini) Wojton, 72

Nila Lee (Giannecchini) Wojton (Andrews Mortuary and Crematory)

WILMINGTON — Nila Lee (Giannecchini) Wojton passed away peacefully on December 10, 2024, in Wilmington, NC. Born in Cheverly, Maryland, to Rose and Leo Giannecchini, Nila grew up in Brentwood, New York, alongside her brothers Paul (Kathleen) and Mark (Margaret).

Nila pursued higher education with dedication, earning her high school diploma from St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School in West Islip, NY, her bachelor’s degree in education from SUNY Oneonta and her master’s degree in education from Dowling College. She spent her career inspiring young minds as a teacher at St. Anthony School in Bristol, CT, and later at The Roger Bacon Academy in Leland, NC. She also served as a coach at The Roger Bacon Academy, helping to develop teachers early in their career.

Her passions extended far beyond the classroom. Nila was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and UConn basketball, often found cheering for her teams with enthusiasm. She found joy in volunteering with the Wilson Center at Cape Fear Community College and the Westport HOA, where she built lasting friendships. Nila also loved spending time at the beach and immersing herself in a good book.

Nila was the beloved wife of 40 years to Ed Wojton, cherished mother to Edward Wojton (Meghan), and devoted grandmother to Maeve Wojton. She was a loving sister-in-law to Barbara (Carl) and a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Nila’s memory to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause close to her heart that she donated to for many years.

A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, February 15th, 2025 at Magnolia Greens Golf Club in Leland, N.C. at 12:00 pm.

Nila’s warmth, kindness, and easy laugh will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
