WILMINGTON — Lorna Edith Davis died at home on November 10, 2024 aged 84.
She is survived by her husband Alan Davis, daughter Julianne D. Davis, son-in-law Jeffrey D. Wygal and grandson Monroe A. Wygal, all of Wilmington, and brother Leonard Loader of Grimsby, U.K. She was preceded in death by her parents Leonard E. and Alice Loader, sister Valerie Kelleher and son Robert C. Davis.
Her two children were born during an eight-year residence in Brisbane, Australia. Last year, Lorna and Alan celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Lorna qualified as a state registered nurse and trained as a midwife, nursing in Davyhulme, Newcastle upon Tyne and Llanfefni, U.K. and State College, PA. She was a skilled seamstress and, for a while, ran her own dressmaking and alterations business.
Her leisure activities included classical ballet and jazz and tap dancing, and she enjoyed ballet and musical theater productions and travel. Lorna had the special gift of making people laugh and feel comfortable around her, finding friends wherever she lived. But above all else, she loved being a homemaker and mother.
Lorna valued the qualities of decency and compassion inherent in humanity. She was a founder member of Humanists and Freethinkers of Cape Fear.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare or American Ballet Theater.
A Celebration of Life for Lorna will be held on her birthday Saturday, November 30, at the family residence. A time will be announced at a later date.
