WILMINGTON — Edith Phillips Turlington, 86, of Wilmington, NC, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, November 4, at Northchase Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Edith was born August 1, 1938, in Chatham County NC, the daughter of the late Buford Wade Phillips and Elsie Hilliard Phillips. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Webster P. Turlington and her sister Dorothy P. Elliott.
Edith graduated from Durham High School and received an Associate’s Degree in Elementary Education from Campbell University where she met the love of her life, Web. She was a devoted wife who faithfully followed her husband to several cities in NC and SC before settling in Wilmington NC in 1972. She was a loving, nurturing mother and grandmother with a steadfast faith in the Lord that she passed on to her children. She was involved with the Jaycees in Dunn, NC, and was an active member of the Esther Sunday School Class at Pine Valley Baptist Church where she was also active in missions as well as a leader of the Acteens group and worked with the Awanas and VBS. She was a homemaker and a Teaching Assistant at Mary C. Williams and worked as a substitute teacher in New Hanover and Duplin County Schools. She loved sewing, doing crafts and enjoyed the senior outings with the church.
She is survived by sons Jeff Turlington (Majannah) of Wilmington and Scott Turlington (Sharlyn) of Columbia, SC; daughters Sharon Roupe (Ray) of Burgaw, NC and Karen Bowman (Jim) of Wilmington; four very loved grandchildren, Daryl Turlington (Christina), Trisha Lovejoy (Rob), Holly Parham (Kaden), Cameron Turlington, a precious great-granddaughter Olivia Lovejoy, Baby Parham on the way and three nephews.

Visitation will be held Friday, November 8 at 10:00am at the Andrews Valley Chapel on South College Road with the funeral Service following at 11:00am. Judy Jeremias will be officiating.
Burial will follow at the Holden Family Cemetery in Supply, NC where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
