John P. Hilla, 65

WILMINGTON — John P. Hilla, 65, passed away on Sunday October 6, 2024. He passed peacefully in his home after watching one final NY Giants win with his family.

John’s family was his whole world, he was a proud father and devoted husband. He began dating his wife Pat Hilla in high school and they have been married for 39 years. John most enjoyed spending time with his children, making them laugh and coming up with games and competitions.

He is survived by his three children John Patrick Hilla V and wife Lillian Hilla, Ryan Francis Hilla and fiancé Jillian McCabe, and Colleen Hilla and husband Nicholas Colosi.

John grew up in Westwood NJ as the oldest son of John (Jack) and Margaret (Peg) Hilla. With eight children almost everyone at Westwood high school new one of the Hilla children over many years.

In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his sister Janice Mulligan, brother Stephen Hilla and brother-in-law Thomas Corra.

He is survived by his siblings Suzanne Theiss, Mary Hilla and husband Mark Coslow, Ann Corra and husband Jim Aulita, Eileen Slater and husband Chuck Slater, Dan Hilla and wife Karen Hilla, and his brother-in-law Jerry Mulligan.

John was incredibly grateful for all the love and support he received from his siblings, nieces and nephews, and in-laws throughout his life and during his battle with cancer.

John enjoyed his career which spanned decades and a changing technological landscape, which he took to in stride. He was a proud early adopter of many new technologies. He began his career as a retoucher for magazines including Martha Stewart and Newsweek. His career evolved over the years and he ended his career working in app development and web design retiring earlier this year.
