WILMINGTON — Gloria Flynn Hood, 86, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 29, 2024. She was born in Atkinson, North Carolina on September 8, 1938 to Richard Flynn and Thelma Brinkley Flynn.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Ray Hood and brother James Flynn.
She is survived by her daughters: Donna Williams and husband Jeff of Wilmington, NC and Jennifer Nolan and husband Aaron of Rock Hill, SC; stepson Scott Hood and wife Cheryl of Jacksonville, FL; granddaughters: Rosemary, Kayla, Kolby and Allison and one great granddaughter Grace; brother Douglas Flynn and wife Pat; sister Pat Allen and many nieces, nephew and cousins.
She graduated in 1956 from Burgaw High School. She worked in several different occupations that included modeling, banking, a secretary at B & W where she met her husband Ray, who she was married to for 54 years. Her favorite job was as a preschool teacher at Winterpark Baptist Church.
A member of the WOMEN OF THE MOOSE & ABWA (American Business Women Association), a member of PVMC (Pine Valley Methodist Church) where she was a member of several circles.
She loved cooking, sewing and making crafts. She loved her family, friends, her church and the Lord. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her.
The family especially wants to extend a heartfelt thank you for the tremendous care and outpouring of love and support they received from Trinity Grove. Also this life event was made easier with the help of the amazing hospice team of Bolivia, NC. They both were the Angels that helped Gloria and her family through this difficult time.
Gloria, Mama, Gran, you will surely be missed! We love you and we know you’ re with Ray now. You will forever live in our hearts!
