LELAND — Van C Mekeel III was reunited with the love of his life Karen A. Mekeel on September 17, 2024. Born on August 9, 1958 in Easton PA, to the late Van and Nancy Mekeel.
He graduated in 1976 from Shenendehowa High School in Clifton Park NY where he formed life long friendships of a few who became more like brothers. After graduating from SUNY Plattsburgh in 1981 with his bachelor’s degree, he worked with Time Warner cable for over 25 years. Then later retiring from ACM Cleaning that he was very proud to own and work beside his devoted wife and son.
In 2019 after his retirement he decided to leave New York and move to Leland NC. He always loved the warmer weather and would often gloat to his family and friends still in NY when it was in the 50’s in NC when he knew NY just received a foot a snow.
Van was an avid golfer, but enjoyed watching all sports. He loved making memories with his family and friends, whether it was on the golf course or just sitting watching tv having coffee.
His greatest accomplishment was being the proud father to Courtney (Michael) Hebert, Alex Mekeel and Kailea Mekeel. He also beamed with pride for his grandson Patrick Hebert. You would often hear him offer his “words of wisdom” to all that would listen.
He was the proud brother of Eva (Bob) Mack, Rae (Mark) Miller, Connie (John) O’Rourke and the late Virginia Klusacek. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
