Fred Heinz Throo (Andrews Mortuary and Crematory)

WILMINGTON — Fred Throo, esteemed Hamptons architect, husband, and father died on September 13, 2024, in his Wilmington, North Carolina home surrounded by his loving family following a recent cancer diagnosis.

He was born on December 28, 1957, the son of Josephine and the late Heinz Throo. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Robert, and brother Ernest.

Fred was the founding principal of Fred Throo Architect, P.C., the culmination of his life’s work. He received numerous design awards from the Long Island Builders Institute, and his work was featured and acclaimed in diverse publications including Elle Décor, Newsday, the New York Post, Houses of the Hamptons, and Coastal Living, the last of which named his “Hamptons Classic” design the Coastal Living Showhouse of 2016. His work was also displayed at the Van Alen Institute. He was a member of the American Institute of Architects.

He is survived by his wife of forty-one years, Joanne Throo; two daughters, Kathryn Throo, of New York, NY (Alexandre Mazar); and Julie Snodgrass of Wilmington, North Carolina (Jeremy Snodgrass); grandchildren Jayden and Jackson Snodgrass; and sister Mary Lempin.

A memorial service will be planned in the near future.

The family would like to thank Lower Cape Fear Life Care, Duke University Hospital, and countless friends and family for their support and acts of kindness.
