WILMINGTON — Dennis George Meyers (Denny) was born November 3, 1939 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He passed away peacefully in his home in Wilmington, North Carolina on September 17, 2024.

Denny grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where he was known as a constant figure on the tennis court. He and his lifelong friend Larry Halpin were State Doubles champions in 1956.

Denny went on to graduate from Parsons College with a BA in Business and spent his career employed by 3M Company in management leadership positions doing sales and marketing for medical surgical products. Denny’s career was one of his proudest accomplishments and the source of many great friendships.

In March 2003, he and his late wife Shelley retired to Wilmington, North Carolina for the beautiful climate and friendly people. They led a quiet life where they enjoyed visits from family and friends. Most of all they LOVED their beautiful golden retrievers. Denny was often seen around town with his beloved dogs who were favorites of the staff at local retail establishments. Denny’s dog, Bo, was by his side when he passed.

Denny was diagnosed with end-stage liver disease in October 2003. Two years later, on his birthday, he received a life-saving liver transplant. Denny became a passionate advocate for organ donation. From doing speaking engagements around the state to holding leadership positions on the Carolina Donor Services Board of Directors, Denny poured his gratitude into making sure others had the same life-saving opportunity.

Denny also was a volunteer the local Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and held the position of Vice President/Treasurer for of the Landfall CERT.

He is predeceased by his parents, George Martin Meyers and Henriette Marie Vampola and his beloved wife Shelley (Seidel) Meyers.

Denny is survived by his sister Donna Lee Murphy and children, grandchildren and great grandchildren Amy Meyers Muntz and husband John, grandchildren Lauren and Evan, great grandchildren Lacey and Dane, Julie Meyers Romano and husband Scott, children Abbey and Jake, John Meyers and wife Anita as well as his stepdaughter Becky Lyn Dufrane Whitney and husband Matthew, her children Meighan, Austin and wife Cati, Jorden and grandchildren Madelyn, Mylah, Marais, Malaya.

Dennis will be buried with his love Shelley at Union Cemetery in Maplewood, MN. The families will be holding private celebrations of life.
