WILMINGTON — Caryway Merritt Robeson, 95, of Wilmington and Rocky Point, NC passed away at her home on September 16, 2024. Caryway was born in Wilmington, NC on November 27, 1928, the daughter of the late Kenneth Caryway Merritt and Flora Smith Merritt.
Caryway was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. She graduated from New Hanover High School and James Walker Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a Registered Nurse at James Walker Memorial Hospital and New Hanover Memorial Hospital.
In addition to her parents, Caryway was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Robeson, her son-in-law, Wayne Greer, Jr. and her two sisters Fleurette Merritt Morse and Rose Merritt House.
She is survived by her loving daughters Martha R. Greer of Wilmington, NC, Linda R. Droste (Ben) Richmond, VA and Jamie R. Richter (Jeff) of Rocky Point, NC.
She is also survived by her granddaughters Kara Curry (Jeremy), their children Grayson and Eliza; Merritt Garner (John), their children Wallace and Henry, Dr. Sarah Richter, Dr. Caroline Droste-Lai (Dr. Raymond Lai), their daughter Amelia Caryway, and her niece Barbara Hodges (Tom).
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1311 Shipyard Blvd, Wilmington, NC. A service will be performed by Pastor Jonathan Conrad and Pastor Mark Opgrand.
