WILMINGTON — Brian Stewart, husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at home on August 14, 2024.
He was born on August 12, 1957 in Kingston, NY to Shirley Stewart (née Young) of Tappahannock, VA and the late Charles Edward Stewart. He is one of three siblings, Mindy Hare of Zebulon, NC (wife of Andy Hare) and Scott Stewart of Tappahannock, VA (husband of Gail Stewart).
A proud graduate of Frostburg State University’s class of 1982 in Maryland, where he met his wife, Brian worked as a real estate appraiser and was deeply committed to his communities. Brian was an active member of Fairfax Circle Baptist and Vienna Baptist churches in Virginia. He dedicated 25 years to the Boy Scouts of America, where he served as Scoutmaster for Troop 187 of Fairfax, VA, from 2005 to 2011, and supported both of his sons to the rank of Eagle Scout.
In 2016, he joined the Patriot Guard Riders SE District, participating in 2-3 missions per month to pay tribute to fallen service members and their families. He did this to honor his father’s Navy service. Brian was also an enthusiastic member of the British Motor Club of Cape Fear, proudly showcasing his 2001 Jaguar XKR convertible. His passions extended to sports clubs such as the Wilmington Senior Softball Association and the Compass Pointe “Keeping it Local” Bowling League. Furthermore, he was actively involved with the Scottish Society of Wilmington NC, the St. Andrew’s Society of Washington DC & Color Guard, and was a devoted supporter of the Wilmington Police Pipes & Drums, Port City Pipes & Drums, and the City of Alexandria (VA) Pipes & Drums.
Brian is survived by his wife of 39 years Judi Blaine-Stewart, two sons, Hunter Stewart of Paris, France (husband of Christine Nguyen) and Harrison Stewart of Jablonec nad Nisou, Czech Republic (husband of Tereza Rašínová), two nephews, one niece, and one grandson.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, August 23, 2024 at Andrews Mortuary & Crematory on Market Street in Wilmington, NC. Visitation with the family will take place at 1 p.m. that day at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to the non-profit Wilmington, NC chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace.
