WILMINGTON — Karen Neuwirth left her earthly home on July 23, 2024 for a heavenly home, following a heroic battle with cancer.
Karen was known by her friends as someone who was full of life, compassion and energy. She loved dancing, she delighted in spending time with her friends and she enjoyed reading a good novel on the beach. If she could do all three at the same time, that was even better.
Karen was adventurous, resilient and brightened up the room with her infectious smile and laughter. Karen was involved in numerous clubs and organizations through the years. She made friends with everyone she met and once she met you, she never forgot you. Karen loved her furry friends, as well, her latest being her loyal companion, Banx.
Karen was born in Wilmington, NC, the only child of Walter and Lois Cooper. She graduated from John T Hoggard High School in 1973 and graduated Summa cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from NC Wesleyan University in 2000. She worked for CP&L/Progress Energy for 18 years in both Wilmington and Raleigh, winning numerous awards for her work. At the time of her death, Karen was a valuable team member at Sound Harbor Wealth Partners as a Registered Client Service Manager.
Karen was a member at St. Andrew’s On-the-Sound Episcopal Church at Wrightsville Beach, NC, where she served in various ministry areas and participated in many church activities.
There will be a graveside celebration of life service for Karen Sunday, July 28, at 4 p.m. at St. Andrew’s On-the-Sound Episcopal Church, 101 Airlie Road, Wilmington, NC. Rev. Gary Jones, interim rector at St. Andrew’s On-the-Sound, and Dr. Jim Baldwin, Minister of Senior Adults at First Baptist Church – Wilmington, will conduct the service.
Everyone is encouraged to wear Karen’s favorite color – pink!
In lieu of flowers please make a contribution to St. Andrew’s On-the-Sound Episcopal Church, Lower Cape Fear Hospice or to a charity of your choice.
