SOUTHPORT — Sylvelin Habermann Witmer went to be with her Lord at age 85, she passed away peacefully on July 21, 2024 in Southport, NC.
Sylvelin was born in Hamburg, Germany on October 21, 1938 to Bruno Heinrich Ludwick Habermann and Ilse Anne Kathrina Driere. Gretel and Joachim Horstmann later became her adopted parents and surrounded her and her family with love and support prior to their passing in Hamburg, Germany.
In 1964, she met Paul David Witmer II in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where they were married on September 25, 1964. Sylvelin and Paul moved to San Diego in 1965 where they lived for 14 years until moving to Corvallis, Oregon. After becoming empty nesters, they moved to Woodbridge, Virginia and later retired in St. James Plantation, North Carolina.
Sylvelin was a dedicated wife and mother who took care of her four children while her husband served in the US Navy for 22 years. She had to quickly become independent and self-sufficient focusing on her family and learning English while her husband served in Vietnam. One of Sylvelin’s proudest moments is when she became a US Citizen in 1991.
Sylvelin became a Christian at 27 years old and spent the rest of her life sharing Jesus and growing in her faith daily. She was a devout believer and attended 1st Baptist Church in Oak Island. Where she enjoyed singing in the choir.
Sylvelin is survived by her husband, Paul David Witmer II; her children Stephanie Lozo, Michele (Steve) Langley, Paul (Kathy) Witmer III; her grandchildren Heather Stevens, Katie Lozo, Krystal Lozo, Allie Lozo, Michael Lozo; Tonya (Aaron) Ayers; Taylor (Suzanna) Langley, Madison Langley; Jade (Brandon) Gail, Blair (Daylon) Witmer, DJ Witmer, Cameron (Emily) Witmer, Colby Witmer. Her Great Grandchildren, Jaylen Stevens, Adrian Stevens; Lucy Lozo, Lana Lozo; Jackson Whipple, Connor Whipple; Ava Gail; Colton Pinkus, and Ryker Pinkus.
Sylvelin was preceded in death by her son, Matthew Jon Witmer and her daughter Andrea Lisa Volsch.
A celebration of life will be at First Baptist Church (4608 E. Oak Island Drive) on Saturday July 27, 2024 at 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to First Baptist Church of Oak Island Building Fund in her name.
