Nathan Clark Drumheller, 69

SOUTHPORT — Nathan Clark Drumheller, age 69, of Southport, North Carolina, although having serious health issues, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2024.

Nathan was born on May 14, 1955 at Fort Dix Army Hospital in New Jersey. While he proclaimed being a southerner, he was humorously reminded that since he was born in New Jersey, he was a northerner.

Nathan worked in various human service agencies as a social worker. His greatest joy was working with mentally challenged adults, assisting them in learning independent living skills and helping them succeed in their new found independence.

Nathan graduated from Kellum High School in Virginia Beach in 1973. He attended Tidewater Community College and Old Dominion University, graduating in 1985 with a BS in Therapeutic Recreation. In 2003, Nathan completed a Masters in Arts in Community Counseling through Marshall University.

Nathan was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan and closely followed the Chicago Cubs. Every fall, Nathan looked forward to college football and always rooted for the underdog. He enjoyed following the West Virginia Mountaineers and Marshall University’s Thundering Herd.

Nathan is survived by his wife of 32 years, Vicki, and family canine Lizzie. He is also survived by his in-laws, Ray and Carolyn Hubbard, Michael Hubbard and wife Carolyn Herrington, Judi McCracken and husband Greg, and nephew Brian. He will also be greatly missed by his best bud, Chuck Sutton. They enjoyed teasing each other of the ups and downs of their baseball teams – Chuck the Dodgers and Nathan, his Orioles.

Nathan is predeceased by his parents, Henry and Willie Drumheller, brother, Wayne Drumheller, and his beloved Bassett Hounds, Gunther, Brutus, Quincy, Redford, and Mollie.

Nathan was a positive person with a great sense of humor and will definitely be missed.

Memorial donations may be made to the Brunswick County Animal Shelter.

A celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 26, 2024 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Southport, North Carolina with Reverend Garrett Albertson officiating.
