BURGAW — Lucille Dale Odom, age 101, passed from her earthly life at home surrounded by family with much love on Sunday (The Lord’s Day), June 23, 2024.
Lucille was born June 27, 1922 in Pender County, the daughter of Lawrence Dale and Annie Murray Dale. In addition to her parents Lucille was preceded in death by her first husband of only nine months, Joseph Wilbourne Murray; her second husband, of many years, Garland Estus Odom, Sr.; her son, Garland Estus Odom Jr,; daughter, Glenda Odom Hurley; sisters, Edna Garriss, Margie Wheeler; and brothers, Floyd Dale and Elmer Dale.
She is survived by her son, Ricky Odom (Connie); daughter-in-law, Cynthia Odom; grandchildren, Ray Bradshaw (Myrae), David Bradshaw (Kathy), Sheila B. Marshall, Heather Odom, Bradley Odom (Brandi), Trey Odom (Melinda), Jamie Odom, Dale Odom; great-grandchildren, Donovon Bradshaw, Deklan Bradshaw, Drake Bradshaw, Vikram Trikha, Davis Bradshaw, Izzy Bradshaw, Hunter Marshall, Fisher Marshall, Krew Odom, Kennedy Odom, Mason Odom, Gia Odom, Trinitee Odom, Sam Odom, Lennox Odom and Lyncoln Odom; sisters, Naomi Tatum and JoAnn Moore; many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Lucille met her first husband, Joseph Wilbourne Murray at a church they were attending. She was left to cherish his memory only nine months after they married. Lucille was devoted to her strong Baptist faith, where she found solace and strength all of her life. Her life reflected her unwavering belief in the Lord, which guided her every step and brought her comfort throughout her remarkable journey. Central to Lucille’s heart were her grandchildren, who brought endless delight and pride into her life. She treasured their company, sharing stories, wisdom, and her love with each of them.
Lucille found peace in reminiscing about a life well-lived. She often spoke fondly of her late husband, Garland Estus Odom Sr., with whom she shared many happy years.
