WILMINGTON — Harold E. Lange, 88, passed away on Friday, June14, 2024 at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in Wilmington, NC..

Harold Edward Lange was born on April 21st, 1936 to the late Lawrence and Buelah Lange, in Wilmington, DE. Harold graduated from Pierre S. DuPont High School in Wilmington, in 1953. Shortly after graduation Harold enlisted in the Air National Guard and Air Force where he served for 8 years.

He went to work for Bartley’s Electric as an apprentice in 1956 and then in 1957 went to work for DuPont in Wilmington, Delaware. While in high school, Harold met Nancy Kay Grantland, whom he married in 1957. They would be married for 63 years!

Harold and Nancy welcomed their first child; Michael Edward on October 21st of 1959 followed shortly thereafter by the birth of Cheryl Anne on December 21st, 1960. Harold and Nancy often commented on how lucky they were to have had the two children they wanted just 14 months apart.

While working for DuPont in July of 1972, Harold received a significant promotion and moved to Wilmington, North Carolina as part of the team to build and run DuPont’s enormous Cape Fear Fibers site. Harold thrived at the Cape Fear Site and eventually became the Electrical Maintenance Superintendent for the Cape Fear, Cooper River and Kinston Sites. Harold retired from DuPont in 1991 after a stellar 34 year career and went on to work for Enterprise as a part-time driver, while also running his clock repair business. Harold enjoyed this role until 2019, when he took time off to receive a right shoulder replacement.

He is survived by his son, Michael Lange and wife, Shirley of Friendswood, Texas; his daughter, Cheryl Baker and her husband, Tim of Rocky Point, NC; grandchildren, Kyle Lange of Houston, TX, Rachel Lange of New York City, NY, Christopher Baker of Wilmington, NC, and DeLayne Baker of Burgaw, NC. .

In addition to his parents, Harold was also preceded in death by his wife, Nancy (Grantland) Lange; his brothers, Lawrence Lange, Jr. and Robert Lange; and his sister, Suzanna Lange.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and to the Basilica Shrine of St. Mary, located in Wilmington, NC.
