Deborah Ann King, 70

Deborah A. King (Andrews Mortuary and Crematory)

WILMINGTON — Deborah Ann King, 70, of Wilmington passed away on June 9, 2024. She was born in Wilmington, NC on December 3, 1953, daughter of the late Norman and Ann Williamson King.

As their only child, she was the light of their life and she faithfully took care of them until their passing. She was also preceded in death by her grandmother and best friend, Martha Koen Williamson.

Debbie is survived by her girls, Melissa King and Rebekah King and by her pride and joy, grandson Koen Asa King.

Debbie graduated from New Hanover High School in 1972 and then obtained her Associates of Science in Nursing from UNC Wilmington in 1974. She was a registered nurse for 42 years and cared for patients in settings across the area including New Hanover and Cape Fear Hospitals. While she enjoyed working in the ICU, ambulatory surgery/endoscopy unit, and the OBGYN clinic, her favorite work was caring for patients on the hospital floor. Additionally, she was able to teach nursing students at Cape Fear Technical Institute during her career. While working, she completed her BS in Management and Organizational Development at University of Mt. Olive in 1999 and her Masters of Liberal Studies from UNC Wilmington in 2005. Upon retirement, she spent her time homeschooling Koen through grade 8 so that he is prepared for his upcoming high school career. This was her most precious work to see her buddy learn and grow while being his Nana, co-parent, and friend. Debbie spent her free time crafting and scrapbooking and was an animal lover, having rescued and nurtured many cats over the years. She enjoyed her Bible study group and various church activities throughout her life.

Our Mama’s life was an expression of love and caring for others, especially her little family. She was a woman of faith and we find comfort in knowing that her faith is now sight.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Ruffian Foundation to support cat rescues and adoptions.

To forget is a vain endeavor, love’s remembrance lasts forever.
