SOUTHPORT — Dale Castle Ridill, age 81, of Southport, North Carolina passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2024.
Dale married Lois in 1989, and together they shared 34 wonderful years. He was a devoted father figure to his sister Lois Smilor’s children, Doug Smilor and Mark Smilor. A loving stepfather to Jean Rottinghaus (and her husband Jeff) and David Russell (and his wife Jen). Dale was a cherished grandfather to Ryan, Chloe, Max, Abbey, and Ava, who brought immense joy to his life.
Dale grew up in Cleveland, Ohio where he cultivated a love for learning and a variety of interests. He attended Bowling Green State University, earning degrees in Business and Education. Dale furthered his education with a Master’s in Education and pursued his PhD. Dale dedicated over 35 years to public education, teaching middle and high school students. He was a passionate and committed educator, inspiring countless young minds with his enthusiasm and knowledge.
Dale had many hobbies and interests. He loved reading the news, working on cars, and working in the yard. Fascinated by trivia and detailed information, he was affectionately known for his “font of useless knowledge.” Dale was very handy and loved the challenge to fix a wide variety of things, from antique clocks to detailed models of ships, planes, and trains. His passion for food, especially cookies, was well known among family and friends. He enjoyed traveling and had visited over 20 different countries, always eager to explore and learn. Dale’s beloved computer, affectionately named “Buddy,” was his constant companion in his later years.
Dale C. Ridill’s legacy of love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 20, 2024 in the Peacock – Newnam & White Funeral Home Chapel.
