LELAND — William Edge Moran, 76, of Leland, NC, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2024, at his home.

Bill, as he was known to family and friends, was born November 13, 1947, to the late John (Skid) Moran and Lillian Smith Moran of Paterson, NJ. He was also predeceased by a brother, John (Jack), and a sister, Eileen Fitzpatrick.

Surviving is his wife of 54 years, Mary Ellen (Suralik) Moran; son, Thomas Moran of Manchester, NJ, sister, Kathleen (Kate) Wolthoff (George) of Wanaque, NJ, and loving in-laws. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews who considered Bill the “toy uncle” at Christmas and who enjoyed reciting the brain teaser, “One hen, two ducks, etc.” for him.

Bill graduated from Pope Pius XII in 1965 and retained many classmates as friends as well as from the class of 1966. He started working at Western Electric and shortly after served a tour in the Army in Vietnam and returned to marry his sweetheart. Bill spent the next thirty-five years working in the Bell System. For thirty years they lived in Wanaque, NJ, where he was a member of the Wanaque Jaycees, Wanaque Coaches, and St. Francis of Assisi Church choir. Bill retired to North Carolina in 2005 where he enjoyed golf, the beach, and many new friends and great neighbors.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 31, 2024, at Basilica of St. Mary Catholic Church in Wilmington.
