WILMINGTON — Gregg Robert Carlson, age 68, went to be with Jesus on May 23, 2024, in Wilmington, NC. He was born in Michigan on April 9,1956.

Gregg was a cancer survivor of 3 years but the process to eliminate the cancer took a great toll on his body.

Gregg was a bigger-than-life person with a passion for family, music, woodworking, horseback riding, boating, and fishing. He spent most of his career in commercial construction, starting in Detroit, where he excelled as a master carpenter.

Gregg was a young man when Motown was big in Detroit so he was able to play with some of the greats like the Bob Segar band, Blackfeet, Jose Feliciano, Gregg Allman band and 38 Special to name a few. Gregg was a studio musician with a great passion for writing songs with approximately 300 recordings.

He is survived by his wife Mary Beth Morgan Carlson, sisters Lynne Carlson Czapski and David Czapski and Julienne Dana Carlson, brother-in-law David Wayne Morgan and wife Nora Morgan, brother-in-law Bobby Britton Morgan and wife Rita Morgan, nephews Aaron Britton Morgan and wife Lauren Morgan and Keith David Morgan and wife Ashley Morgan, and nieces Camille Madden and husband Terry Madden, Lindsey Blanchard and husband Joe Blanchard, Patric Cody Mack, and Adam Quinn Carlson. Gregg was the son of the late Dale Manning Carlson and Marguerite Carlson Nicol. He also loved and adored his great nieces and nephews: Lesly Morgan, Max Morgan, Emma Blanchard, Britton Blanchard, Taylor Blanchard, Morgan Madden, Elizabeth Madden, Aubrey Rose Mack and Grady Morgan.

Gregg is predeceased by his parents Dale Manning Carlson and Marguerite Carlson Nicol and his brother Scott Brian Carlson.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Cape Fear Christian Church, 811 N College Rd Wilmington, NC 28411. Save the date of Saturday June 22, 2024, at 4:30 PM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, Tunnel to Tower, and Samaritans Purse in memory of Gregg Robert Carlson.
