Peter Edward Feakes, 76

Peter Edward Feakes (Quinn McGowen Funeral Home)

WILMINGTON — Peter Edward Feakes, age 76, of Carolina Beach, NC died peacefully on Monday, May 20, 2024 at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in Wilmington, NC.

He was born on March 30, 1948, in Monmouth County, NJ to the late 1st Lt. Edward Livingston Feakes and Patricia Starr Deighton Feakes.

Peter is survived by his daughter, Talan Breeze Feakes, his “Florida family”, and special friends: Symanthia Watson, Alan Langston, Cynthia & Earl Smith, Jim & Lane Batey, Roach, Jerry Johnson, and the “Florida Avenue crowd.” In addition to his parents, Peter was preceded in death by his sister; and Talan’s mother, Angie Langston.

Peter was an adventurer, outdoorsman, and commercial diver. He was most at home on the ocean, sailing and with his beloved dogs Hershey & Sweetie. During his career, he worked for Zulu Marine Services and even helped clean up the Valdez oil spill. His favorite genre of music was jazz, particularly David Grissman. He loved the movie “Chocolat” and his favorite ice cream was Haagen-Daz Rum Raisin.

Being a frugal person, Peter could find the best treasures while shopping at thrift stores. He especially enjoyed Island Cottage and Vintage Values for their worthy causes. Peter had the best T-shirt collection (which displayed various motifs, names, and pictures) that served as fun conversation starters leading to new friendships. He enjoyed going to Martha’s Kitchen on Thursday evenings for a hot meal, music & fellowship with beach friends.

Peter went through many colorful life phases over his 7 decades on earth. Those who knew him recognized his uniqueness, strong will, and free spirit. He was a great handyman. His moto was “I can Feakes anything”! Peter is missed by those who loved him, and he will remain in our hearts forever.

In lieu of flowers and in memory of Peter, a fund has been set up for his teenage daughter, Talan. Please make checks payable to: Talan B. Feakes and mail checks to C/O Cynthia Smith, 504 S. Bickett St., Burgaw, NC 28425.

A private burial at sea will take place at a future date.
