WILMINGTON — Norma Celeste Capps McWaters, age 80, of Wilmington, NC, passed from this life into the loving arms of the Lord on May 4, 2024.She was born on October 9, 1943, in Asheville, NC.
In her early life, Celeste dedicated her time to being a loving stay-at-home mom before embarking on a fulfilling career as a Tax Preparer for H & R Block, where she faithfully served for 25 years. Celeste was a lifelong, active member of Masonboro Baptist Church, where she shared her faith and talents in many church activities and especially as a Sunday School Teacher and member of the Choir. She also had a love of flowers and gardening.
Celeste was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Esther Capps; siblings Sheilah Capps, Maxine Poole, Janice Loney and Ronald Capps; and her infant daughter Karen McWaters.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, James “Mac” Walter McWaters; daughters, Kim McWaters Wilson and husband Sandy of Wilmington and Susan McWaters of Denver, CO; one granddaughter, Rachel Verdi and husband Tim; and one great-grandson, Mason Verdi; along with numerous nieces and nephews and extended family members.
A service to honor Celeste’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at Masonboro Baptist Church in Wilmington, led by Rev. Wes Hunter. Following the service, burial will take place in the Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Church an hour before the service.
Memorial gifts in remembrance of Celeste may be directed to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare or Masonboro Baptist Church – Cemetery Fund.
Celeste will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of love and faith will endure in the hearts of those she touched.
