WILMINGTON — Kirby Gene Hinson, known affectionately as Kirby, was born on February 6, 1938, in Wake County, NC. He peacefully passed away on Friday May 3, 2024, in Wilmington, NC, at the age of 86.
Kirby lived a life marked by hard work and dedication, leaving behind a legacy that will forever inspire those who knew him.
After a fulfilling career as an Electrician, Kirby transitioned into becoming an independent truck driver, showcasing his versatility and determination in pursuing his passions. His strong work ethic and commitment to providing for his family were evident throughout his life.
Kirby is preceded in death by his parents John Daly Hinson and Lunie Sutton Hinson, brothers Richard Hinson and James Hinson, and sister Loraine H. Ingraham.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Lois Andrews Hinson, his children Donna H. Chestnut and husband Geoffrey, Debra H. Hobbs and husband Harold, David Hinson and wife Debbie, and Darryl Hinson and wife Laura, as well as his sister Minnie H. Smith.
Kirby’s memory will live on through his six grandsons – Brandon, Preston, Andrew, Justen, Loren, and Zach – six great-grandchildren, and twins on the way. He is also fondly remembered by numerous nephews, nieces, and a host of friends who cherished his presence.
Though he may no longer be with us, Kirby’s spirit, resilience, and love will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who knew him. Rest in peace, Kirby, your legacy will forever be cherished.
