WILMINGTON — James Roy Croom, Jr. (Jimmy), 72 of Currie, NC passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 29 at Woodbury Wellness Center.
His Father, James Croom; Mother, Edith Croom; Daughter, Pam; and Son, James Thomas (Bubba) preceded him in death.
He is survived by his loving daughters, Leslie (George), Amy (Heath), Kandy (Britton) and Haley; his grandchildren, Kelsey, Trevor, Wyatt, Aaron, Ashlynn, Brimm; great grandkids, Chloe, Kayden, Hardyn, Kaylee, Brayden and Hudson; as well as his sisters, Margie (Donald), Debbie (Alton), Linda (Joey), Sharon (Maurice); many amazing nieces and nephews; and a very loyal friend, Jesse Macedo.
Jimmy was born on May 12th, 1951 to James and Edith Croom in Wilmington, NC. He attended New Hanover High School and after high school, he went on to pursue many adventures. He could often be found under the hood of a car as he loved to work on and race cars with his Dad and Uncle. He loved the water from a young age and would tag along on shrimping and fishing adventures with his father.
He started his own very successful Drywall Business, Jimmy Croom Drywall, in the 80’s and pursued that passion until his devastating stroke in 2017. When Jimmy was not hard at work, you would often find him with a fishing rod in his hand. He had an immense passion for all things outdoors hunting, fishing and boating. However, fishing definitely ignited a fire in his soul. He purchased a house everyone lovingly called “the camp” on the Black River many years ago and that ignited his fresh water fishing fire to an all-time high. He loved to fish with his kids especially Kandy and Bubba. He greatly enjoyed entertaining at the camp and leading family and friends down the Black River to catch a monster of a catfish only to get back and cook it up for all to enjoy.
He loved his kids tremendously however when the grandkids arrived followed by his greats they quickly became the apple of his eye.
Jimmy was an extremely generous man and never seem to meet a stranger. He was one of those men that would honestly give someone the shirt off his back. He loved to see people happy and would do his best to make that happen.
His family and friends will miss him tremendously. We are extremely grateful for all the memories, laughs, and will carry them forever in our heart.
Special thanks to Woodbury Wellness Center for their love and care of Jimmy over the past several years
