George Allen Warwick, 79

George Allen Warwick (Andrews Mortuary and Crematory)

WILMINGTON — George Allen Warwick “Allen” died peacefully on April 26, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.

Born on March 12, 1945 in Wilmington, Allen was the son of the late Yates and Olivia Warwick and was preceded in death by his brother Carl Yates Warwick. After graduating from New Hanover High School, Allen joined the Army National Guard during the Vietnam era, and then attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Throughout his life, he remained close to his many beloved, high school and college friends throughout the state.

He enjoyed a successful career in the sporting goods industry where he represented many national and international hunting, fishing, and shooting lines. He had a positive impact on the hunting gear market in the Southeast from his vast knowledge and experience of the outdoors. An outspoken advocate for all things outdoors, Allen was a supporter of causes such as Ducks Unlimited, Quail Unlimited, and the National Wild Turkey Federation. Allen was a tireless advocate of hunting, fishing, and all outdoor sports, and he appealed to youth and young sportsmen to engage in and enjoy the outdoors and work to preserve access to private and public lands.

Known for his friendly, outgoing personality, love of life and laughter, Allen was an avid outdoorsman, light tackle fisherman, and superior wing shooter with few peers. He hunted and fished in Canada, South America and many areas of west and Midwest America. On any fall or winter day, he could be found behind one of his beloved pointing bird dogs, or over a spread of duck and goose decoys, or casting into a school of drum or speckled trout at a remote coastal inlet. He loved camping, hiking, biking, snow skiing and sharing those outdoor times with friends and family. He believed that spending time outdoors and enjoying the beauty of creation was a precious gift from God to be shared by all.
