WILMINGTON — Nettie McKenney, 92, passed away peacefully on Friday April 19, 2024 in Wilmington, NC.
She was born and raised in Plainfield, NJ.
She went to work for United National Bank where she met Richard “Dick” McKenney and was married for 60 years.
After the bank, she worked 15 years for AT&T retiring as manager of marketing dept Budgets and then moved to NC.
Nettie and Dick shared their love for golf, cards, friends but mostly their children Sue, Nancy and Janet with grandchildren, Crystal, Jason, Jennifer, Lyndsey, Kelly, Steven and TJ and 12 great grandchildren.
Nettie enjoyed being a competitive athlete from her years as a softball player, bowler, downhill skier and of course golfer boasting 6 hole in ones!
She started two different golf leagues and was involved in many tournaments and always “played by the rules”!
Nettie loved to travel with friends for tournaments all over NC and competed up into her 80″s with many, many wins! She also enjoyed playing cards with family and great friends along the years. She also loved teaching some of her grandchildren the game of golf with such patience.
Rest in peace mom! You lived your best life!
A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, May 2, 2024 at Wilmington Funeral Chapel. A reception will follow the service where the family will greet friends.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial contributions to Lower Cape Fear Hospice 1414 physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
