Helen Teachey Walton, 91

Helen Teachey Walton (Andrews Mortuary and Crematory)

WILMINGTON — Helen Teachey Walton, 91, of Sneads Ferry, NC, passed away at her home on Thursday, April 4, 2024.

The daughter of Ralph and Exie Teachey, Helen was born in Burgaw, NC, in October 1932. She grew up in Wilmington, NC, alongside her brother, Ed Teachey (deceased) and graduated from New Hanover High School. In 1952, Helen married Monk Walton after he returned from the Korean War. They raised their three children in Greensboro and Smithfield, NC. In 1985, they moved to Sneads Ferry, NC, where they co-owned and operated “Monk’s Variety,” and were stalwarts of the community.

Helen was preceded in death by Monk, who passed away in 2014. Living on as her legacy are her daughter Sherry Walton-Johnson (husband Mark); her son, Ralph P. Walton (wife Rhonda); her daughter Helen Sherwood Walton (husband Paul Horton); grandson Wyatt James Horton, and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Sneads Ferry Presbyterian Church, followed by a committal of ashes in the Serenity Garden. Following the service there will be a reception in the Fellowship Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in honor of Ms. Helen’s longtime support for the health and well-being of children.

For those wishing to visit with the family during the week, they are welcome at the home of Sherry and Mark Johnson.

The family is thankful for their extended family, church members, friends, and hospice nurses who have loved and cared for Ms. Helen and their family so well.
