HAMPSTEAD — Harriet Ann Potts (Heibel) 85, of Sneads Ferry, NC, formerly of Raritan NJ, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2024.
Born on July 13, 1938 to Joseph and Emily Heibel (Starkin) of Brooklyn New York, who later retired to Quakertown PA, Harriet was a proud attendee of the New York City Public School District, attending Jamaica High School.
She joined the workforce as a switchboard operator in Manhattan. She later married Peter Merbedone, moving to the suburbs of New Jersey. With Peter she had three children, Laura, Paul, and Edward. After separating from Peter, she served as Bridgewater-Raritan Public School district’s favorite bus driver for over three decades.
She married Kenneth Potts in 1970. Upon their retirement, Harriet and Ken, moved to Sneads Ferry, NC where they enjoyed their golden years, fishing, traveling, and hosting their many friends and family.
Harriet is predeceased by her parents Joseph and Emily Heibel (Starkin); her husband Kenneth Potts; her son Edward Merbedone; and former husband Peter Merbedone and her brother-in-law Donald Potts.
Harriet is survived by her daughter Laura Wilmott and son Paul Merbedone (Linda); daughter-in-law Laura Merbedone; her grandchildren Thomas Merbedone, Emily Wilmott, Kelsy Walker (Patrick), Seana Lorquet (Maximillion), Racheal Rose Merbedone, and Samantha Merbedone; her great-grandchild Brandon Merbedone; her nieces Virginia “Gini” Kreutzkamp (William) and Katherine “Kate” Potts (Robinson); her great nieces, McKenzie and Alaina and her great-nephews Connor and Liam; along with her beloved pet Emily the Bird.
